Ribera del Duero is about two hours from Madrid and makes a good day trip. Rioja deserves an overnight stay: Haro, Logroño and Elciego are a little over three hours away. And for a morning out, the Sierra Oeste is 45 minutes away. Always book ahead: almost every visit is by appointment only.
